A home security camera captured footage of a mountain lion — being chased by the family dog — running through a Morada family’s backyard Friday.“I was having a bible study in our rec room. My friend looked out and said, ‘Oh your dogs are playing’ and I said, ‘I only have one dog,’” said Sandy Ali Saturday.Ali shared she has lived in the area for years but has never seen a mountain lion near her home. She said she went outside and saw the animal quickly leap into a tree.“It’s really beautiful,” she said. “It just, in one leap, was up in the tree so quickly.”She called 911, prompting first responders from multiple agencies to come and try and trap the big cat. She said it appeared, after hours of the cat waiting in the tree, that authorities tried to tranquilize the animal but that it leaped into a nearby field and got away.While the search for the mountain lion continues, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office is asking people who live in the area to stay vigilant and to keep their pets indoors.La Loma Way is residential, near Los Cerritos Drive. Many of the neighbors said they’d heard about the sighting.“It was very surprising,” a neighbor told KCRA 3 News Saturday. “It was very unexpected.”Ali said that while she’s relatively sure the mountain lion has moved on, she is still grateful to her dog – Rocco — for his good work protecting the yard and for the quick, collaborative response from law enforcement in handling the matter.
