Labor Day weekend is a busy weekend for everyone including the police. Get ready to see more local police and state troopers out and about to spot impaired drivers.
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is working with Texarkana law enforcement now through Monday, September 4. They will all be participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over high-visibility enforcement period doing their best to take drunk drivers off the road.

It is sad to hear that in 2021 according to NHTSA, in 2021 during the Labor Weekend from Friday through Monday, there were 531 car crash fatalities nationwide and 41% of those there was a drunk driver involved.
TAPD Chief Michael W. Kramm, said in a press release,
We want our community members to understand that it’s our first priority to keep people safe, so we’re asking everyone to plan ahead if they know they’ll be out drinking. The Drive Sober campaign is an awareness effort to get the message out that drunk driving is illegal and it takes lives. Let’s make this a partnership between law enforcement and drivers: Help us protect the community and put an end to this senseless behavior.

In today’s society, there are so many safer options to get around to places and return home safely. If you can’t get a designated driver then call a taxi or an Uber or just stay where you are if you are visiting with friends or family.
An Uber or taxi is cheaper than a DUI which can cost you up to $10,000. It’s just not worth it.
