This event brings recognized artists, artesanos and merchants who represent the rich, Mexican culture. It attracts 8,000+ people based on previous events. Here, attendees will enjoy attractions in two stages including mariachi, the nationally-recognized UTRGV Ballet Folklórico, and Mission Parks and Recreations Folklórico. Live performances also include Grupo Galan, Sonora de Mike and Grupo Ascenso.

On Saturday, the event will kickoff at 5pm with internationally traveling monologue showcasingbiographical work of Frida Kahlo that narrates the life of the artist from her childhood, her sadness, joys and successes presented by Nora de la Cruz. At 7pm, a representative of the Mexican Consulate in McAllen will do the reenactment of the traditional Grito de Independencia “Cry of Independence.” Bring your colorful Mexican clothes to enter the ‘Best Mexican Attire Contest on Saturday at 8pm.

Throughout the weekend, D111 Films from Mexico will take us on a magical trip thought various ‘magicaltowns’ or Pueblos Magicos, towns recognized by the Mexican government rich in beauty, preserved culture and extraordinary legends. We will travel through a photo gallery and film of those internationallyrecognized towns. As part of the showcase, you’ll see Danza Prehispánica Tonatiuh in colorful feather headdresses adorned with the finest adornments perform Aztec dances that connect with our ancestors and our roots.
