Fashion History Museum holds fabric sale fundraiser at pop-up shop

Encore Vintage at 35 Queen St. E. in Cambridge to host event Sept. 22 and 23

The Fashion History Museum (FHM) will be hosting a two-day Fabric Sale on Sept. 22 and 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Encore Vintage pop-up shop at 35 Queen St. E. in Cambridge.

The sale will feature vintage and contemporary yardage as well as offcuts from luxury suit manufacturer, Coppley, of Hamilton. Purchases can be made using cash or card and all proceeds go towards the care and growth of the museum’s permanent collection.

The Fabric Sale is part of the museum’s mandate to promote a more sustainable fashion industry.

In a press release, FHM curatorial director Jonathan Walford explains that “nearly 92 million tons of clothing waste ends up in our landfills every year and only 20 per cent of textiles are collected for reuse or recycling”.

The sale is intended to encourage more sustainable practices – from producer to consumer. The FHM would like to thank Coppley for their donation to the sale and for their role in reducing the fashion industry’s impact on the planet.

The Fashion History Museum was founded in 2004 by Walford and Kenn Norman and was granted charitable status in 2009.

The museum’s extensive collection now features nearly 10,000 fashion objects spanning four centuries.
