The best dog-friendly hotels with posh amenities for pets

Travel is back in a big way, but that doesn’t mean jet-setting pet parents have to leave their furry friends behind.

Alexa has tracked down eight properties that make travel a total delight — for human and canine guests alike.

With beautifully appointed animal-friendly accommodations, luxurious amenities and special touches, these spots might make you wonder whether you and your pet ever need to go home.

Set on a 25-acre working farm in the San José del Cabo foothills, Acre Resort features 13 open-air treehouses with private terraces and outdoor showers, as well as ground-floor villas (six currently, with 15 in the works) — a better fit for guests who bring their pups along for the trip.

Acre Resort Los Cabos has placed 900 dogs into loving homes.

The hotel’s celebrated restaurant sources 70% of its ingredients from the farm; guests can even forage for ingredients alongside the chef. But the real draw is the resort’s animal rescue, Acre Dogs. “Guests love playing with the new puppies,” says Rachael Watt, who started the rescue in 2017 when someone brought a small box of orphaned puppies to Acre Resort. Once those pups were healthy, they were all adopted by hotel guests.

Since then, Acre Dogs has placed around 900 puppies — many of which have health needs too great for local shelters — into loving homes. “We really encourage visitors to come to the property to socialize the puppies and dogs,” Watt says. “We appreciate all the volunteers who help us out with walking the dogs or just spending some time with them.”

Rooms from $375 per night.

A special pet menu at The Little Nell features dishes like Wagyu beef paired with carrots, brown rice and scrambled eggs.
The Little Nell

As the only five-star, five-diamond, ski-in and -out hotel in Aspen, The Little Nell — a Relais & Châteaux resort — invites guests to follow an exhilarating day on the mountain with award-winning wine, haute cuisine and their favorite four-legged pals.

With no size or breed restrictions in its 92 rooms (including six luxury and eight junior suites), The Little Nell greets its canine clients with a complimentary bandana and house-made dog treats; dog-walking and -sitting services are also available. A special pet menu features dishes like Wagyu beef paired with carrots, brown rice and scrambled eggs. Bowwow, indeed.

Rooms from $719 per night.

Enjoy panoramic city views from the rooftop (or should we say ruff-top) deck of the Loews Coral Gables.
Loews Coral Gables

After making its debut last November, the Loews Coral Gables is the centerpiece of a new 2.1 million-square-foot mixed-use development (The Plaza Coral Gables), located just four blocks from the area’s famed Miracle Mile.

You’ll love the panoramic city views from the rooftop deck, and this 242-room (including 23 suites) property, like many other Loews hotels, loves its VIPs (Very Important Pets). It caters to them with a curated Loews Loves Pets program, including welcome amenities such as treats, dog tags, bowls, beds, toys, a gourmet in-room dining menu for pets (developed under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian, no less), dog-walking maps and more. A one-time fee of $75 per stay is applicable.

Rooms from $399 per night.

Dogs are spoiled with cozy beds, toys and treats, plus fine dining from a pet-cuisine menu at Montage Palmetto Bluff.
Montage Palmetto Bluff

There’s no country like the Lowcountry when it comes to a fantastically dog-friendly escape. Montage Palmetto Bluff offers your furry friend the same five-star experience you’d expect for yourself in its 170 rooms, suites and cottages. Dogs are spoiled with cozy beds, toys and treats, plus fine dining from a pet-cuisine menu. Keep your pup busy with the resort’s dog walking, day care and grooming services while you hit its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

Be sure to say hello to Canine Ambassador Cauley, a rescue from the Hilton Head Humane Association. Couples getting married on the property can donate $1,000 to the resort’s local animal shelter in exchange for a Canine Ambassador flower dog.

Rooms from $464 per night.

The Pendry San Diego provides dogs with their own plush beds.
Pendry San Diego

For a swanky, pet-friendly stay in the heart of San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter, book one of the 317 spacious rooms and suites at the Pendry San Diego, which welcomes dogs of any size or breed for just a $100 charge, providing them with their own plush beds and bowls.

The fine dining, rooftop pool and opulent Spa Pendry make it easy to enjoy yourself without setting foot beyond the property, but with Seaport Village and countless pet-friendly restaurants within walking distance, you’ll certainly find yourself on the move. If you’re lucky enough to be in town during one of the Bark at the Park games at nearby Petco Park, take in a Padres game with your best buddy by your side.

Rooms from $345 per night.

The Kimpton Sylvan has 217 dog-friendly rooms.
Sylvan Hotel

Located in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, the 217-room Sylvan Hotel is a perfect spot from which to stroll with your dog for high-end eats and higher-end shopping; don’t miss the area’s iconic off-leash dog park and bar, Fetch Park. When you return, the Sylvan awaits with comfy pet beds and water bowls.

The hotel’s dog-friendly specials include a Pet Getaway package, which pampers your pup with a “spaw” trip to Animal House Buckhead (the luxury groomers next door), a special toy from a local pet shop, and healthy treats from the property’s Willow Bar, where you can enjoy wine and cheese while your pooch snacks in a lush outdoor garden.

Rooms from $209 per night.

The Ned Nomad’s decor is a nod to classic 1920s glamour.

Can’t imagine escaping to the city without your furry friend? That’s no problem at The Ned NoMad, which allows dogs up to 60 pounds for no fee in its 167 rooms and suites (although pet parents do need to sign a waiver). Providing small or medium dog beds, setting up food and water bowls prior to arrival and offering good boys and girls a dog bone on arrival is all part of the classy canine experience.

Of course, there’s also plenty for two-legged guests to appreciate, like the decor’s nod to classic 1920s glamour. Seeking a more exclusive experience? Consider applying for membership in Ned’s Club to gain access to members-only areas and perks.

Rooms from $600 per night.

Dogs up to 50 pounds are welcome in the Thompson’s 225 rooms and suites at no charge.

Designed by internationally acclaimed Studios Architecture with interiors by award-winning firm Parts and Labor Design, the Thompson is the first lifestyle hotel in The Yards community — a growing mixed-use development in DC.

While pets may not be allowed in the property’s rooftop bar (which boasts 360-degree views of the district), dogs up to 50 pounds are welcome in the hotel’s 225 rooms and suites at no charge. Book the You’re Pawfect the Way You Are package, which includes treats, Thompson pooch swag, walking essentials and a discount for a local doggy day care.

Rooms from  $419 per night.
