In the Amazon home-delivery era, the theft of packages from front doors has become a common occurrence.
Also common are home security cameras that capture the thefts. In Cochrane this week, footage from a security cam led to the arrest of a suspected porch pirate.
Ontario Provincial Police were called Jan. 3 about the theft of a package from the front of a home on Thirteenth Avenue.
“The victim provided video surveillance to police which showed an individual approaching the home shortly after a delivery had been made,” the OPP said in a news release Friday.

As a result, a 29-year-old suspect has been arrested in the case and charged with theft under $5,000, trying to sell stolen property and failing to comply with a probation order.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 27 in Cochrane.
