PHARR – The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) will be hosting an Elementary ‘Trashion Show’ featuring sustainable fashion made from recycled items by elementary students on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 10:00 am at PSJA Southwest Early College High School Auditorium.
The event is made possible through a collaboration between the PSJA Office of Sustainability, Academics and Pharr Public Health Department. The science project-based learning event is in connection with PSJA ISD’s districtwide efforts to promote the United Nation’s Sustainability Goals, specifically Goal #12 Responsible Consumption.
In addition to student-made sustainable fashion, the event will feature remarks from PSJA North High School Alum and New York City Costume Designer and illustrator Wilberth Gonzalez who will speak to students about his career journey designing for Broadway and his sustainability efforts as a designer.
Gonzalez has assisted in several designs that have made their debut on numerous Broadway shows such as Moulin Rouge, My Fair Lady, The King and I, War Paint, and Mrs. Doubtfire. He also received an Emmy nomination in 2022 for his work as an Assistant Costume Designer on Moon Knight.
The Pre-Fashion Show will begin at 9:00 am where students will walk the red carpet and have photos taken by the paparazzi before the main event.
