ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Rochester Police Department reported an uptick in burglaries from Jan. 26 to Jan. 27, with three happening by the end of the week, costing victims around $2,000.
According to Custom Alarm, a Rochester-based home security company, there are some simple tips that local homeowners can follow to protect their property.
Melissa Brinkman, CEO of Custom Alarm, said that even taking simple precautions like leaving some lights on when you leave or go to bed, and remembering to lock all of your doors each time can do a lot to increase your home security.
Brinkman also said that if your home already has a security system installed, it is important to remember to turn it on each time you leave the house.
“I would say just to be diligent. I mean we come in and we have our habits. So maybe changing up your habits a little coming in and out of your house, “ Brinkman said.
Brinkman also emphasized that it was important for property owners to be aware of their surroundings in their neighborhoods and keep an eye out for unusual activity like a garage being open at an unusual time.
According to Brinkman, for more advanced security concerns the company and others like it in the area provide a variety of options to help residents monitor their homes, including doorbell cameras, alarm systems, and more integrated security system options.
Custom Alarm will be available for additional security questions from Rochester residents this weekend starting this Friday at 3 p.m. at the Rochester Area Builder’s Home Show.
