The Independent Investigative Division (IID) in the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting in Anne Arundel County early Saturday morning.

Shortly before 2:30 am on September 17, 2022, Anne Arundel County Police The Department of Justice responded to the 4100 block of Sands Road in Harwood following a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident.
While police were on their way, the 911 caller said a man involved in a domestic violence incident had left his home and fired several shots outside.
As officers were driving down the driveway of the house, several shots were fired from the wooded area along the driveway. Some of those shots hit unoccupied police cars. A few minutes later, the man emerged from a nearby forest, still armed with a gun. The officer ordered the man to drop the gun, but he did not comply. The man raised his gun at the officer, and several officers fired at him, hitting him multiple times. Police and paramedics provided medical assistance, but the man was declared dead at the scene.
No officers were injured in the incident. A woman involved in a domestic violence incident was taken to hospital and later released.

The Independent Investigations Division will normally release the names of the fatalities and the officers involved within 48 hours of the incident, but may extend that period if there is specific reason to believe that the officer’s safety is in jeopardy. may be
The body-worn cameras of the officers involved were active during the incident. The Independent Investigation Division typically releases body camera footage within 14 days of the incident. If investigators need more time to complete interviews of witnesses, if there are technical delays due to the need to hide the identity of civilian witnesses, or if family members are unable to view the video in advance.
