Audi has announced that it will join Formula 1. The automaker will enter Formula 1 from his 2026 season and will use a proprietary power unit.
The announcement was made at the F1 Belgian Grand Prix press conference at Spa-Francorchamps.
“Motorsport is an integral part of Audi’s DNA,” says Markus Duesmann. “Formula 1 is both a global stage for our brand and a very challenging development lab. With the new rules, now is the right time for us to get in. After all, both Formula 1 and Audi are pursuing clear sustainability goals.”
The key to getting involved is having a clear plan to make the world’s most popular racing series more sustainable and cost-effective. New technical regulations, applicable from 2026, focus on greater electrification and advanced sustainable fuels. In addition to the existing cost caps for teams, power unit manufacturer cost caps will be introduced in 2023. Additionally, F1 has set an ambitious target for him to become a carbon-neutral racing series by 2030.
