Mumbai:
Mumbai police have arrested a gang who were carrying out a fake Income Tax (IT) raid in Akshay Kumar’s ‘Special 26’ style at a businessman’s residence.
Parksite Police Station, an affiliate of the Mumbai Police Department, has arrested the gang during an investigation at the Green Building in Hiranandani, Vikrori.
Police informed the gang that they were carrying out a fake raid on a businessman named Mayank Bajaj. Gang members arrived at the businessman’s residence at 1:00 p.m. on July 26, when Mayank Bajaj was not at his home.
Gang members showed up in formal attire and presented fake ID cards to pose as income tax officials. They showed a fake warrant and started the raid. They were able to find 10,000 rupees of cash from the house.
However, when Mr. Bajaj returned, he contacted the IT department and learned that the IT department had not searched the house. He then lodged a complaint with the nearest police station and the police came and arrested the gangster.
Four people were arrested in connection with the incident. They are identified as Dheeraj Kamble, Prashant Bhatnagar, Wasim Kureshi, and Ejaz Khan.
One of the accused, Nita Kamble, was a domestic helper at a businessman’s residence. She gave the gang information about the money, after which they planned this fake raid.
Police also informed that gang ringleaders Nitin Kothari, Nita Kamble, Mariam Appa and Shammi Khan have not yet been arrested. So far, police have searched Gujarat, Mumbai, Liger, Bid and Panvel areas.
Police have registered cases against arrested members under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
