Colburn, whose upcoming EASC event and book of the same name, began researching homelessness after moving to Seattle in 2017. Looking at cities with varying numbers of homeless people based on poverty, mental health treatment factors, and substance use, housing plays a major role in homelessness. Most scholars agree with Colburn’s findings, but much of the public is still not convinced.
