EDITORIAL: LISTEN WHEN THE GENERAL PROMOTION STARTS
Released at 12:00 am on Saturday, August 27, 2022
The following weekend is the Labor Day holiday, after which it is commonly seen as the beginning of the general election campaign season.
Fall ballot candidates are already campaigning, but early September is when the big advertising campaign and trail journey really begins.
Here in Lawrence County, we’re in an extraordinary year, with most polled local elections uncontested and voted candidates automatically guaranteed to win.
Apart from the state senate elections for retired Bob Peterson to fill the seat vacated, there really isn’t any competition going on at the local level this year.
Nonetheless, this election is still a significant one, with all offices and legislative offices statewide being up for election.
Each election season, the Ironton Tribune publishes a guide to local elections. In this guide, you’ll send your candidates a survey and present their responses to voters.
We will continue to do so in state senatorial elections, but this year’s situation calls for a different approach.
Beginning early next month, we will be sending surveys to candidates from major parties running for federal and statewide offices who will participate in the Lawrence County ballot, and making their responses public.
Southern Ohio is often overlooked by those running for major public office, so it could be a unique opportunity to make your voice heard in these important elections.
We look forward to hearing from you. If you have an issue you would like us to address, or if you have a question for the Governor of Ohio, Attorney General, Comptroller, Treasurer, Supreme Court, U.S. House of Representatives or Senate, please send it to: please give me. Please contact briefs@irontontribune.com. (Use “Candidate Questionnaire” in the subject line) or mail it to PO Box 647. Ironton, OH 45638 (Attn.: Heath Harrison) by September 7.
On another note, this week our county was lucky enough to see visits from gubernatorial candidates from both major parties. Democratic nominee Nan Whaley stopped in Ironton as part of her tour of southern Ohio. DeWine and Whaley have been to our county many times over the past year and thank you for coming to Southern Ohio and taking the time to help the residents here.
