An Army major general who confronted a Fox News host couple is under investigation for his use of social media, an Army spokesperson has confirmed.
Spokeswoman Cynthia O. Smith said in a statement that Major General Patrick Donahoe has been temporarily assigned as a special assistant to the commander of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, pending War Department review. .
“Due to the ongoing Army review process, we are unable to provide additional information at this time,” Smith said.
Multiple news outlets reported in May that Donahoe planned to resign as commander of Fort Benning, Georgia, in July. However, his profile page on the Army’s website does not state that he is in the process of retiring, referring to his status as special assistant since last month.
Donahoe was among the military’s top group to refute comments made by Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson in March 2021.
Donahoe posted a video of himself performing a reenlistment ceremony for a female soldier, posting it as a “reminder that @TuckerCarlson couldn’t be more wrong.”
Fox host Laura Ingraham attacked Donahoe last July as she wrestled online with veterans who were opposing the military’s COVID-19 vaccine requirements.
A source familiar with the situation told the Military Times that Donahoe will likely face reprimand for his behavior on social media, though the type of reprimand is not clear.
Donahoe did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
