Jennifer Kuo Baxter, an entertainment attorney who held multiple senior management positions at multiple film studios, died of cancer on July 23rd. She was 62 years old.
Kuo Baxter’s career in the entertainment industry spans over 30 years, having worked in the business and legal departments of Sony Pictures Entertainment, TriStar Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, Interscope and DreamWorks Animation Studios.
She joined the legal group of Columbia Pictures (later Sony Pictures Entertainment) in the fall of 1986, responsible for supporting the production and distribution of feature films and motion pictures.
Her extensive experience in production and special effects has led to her being promoted to Co-Head of Sony Pictures Digital’s Business and Legal Group. Films she was closely associated with during her career were ‘Stuart Little’, ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’, ‘Trolls’ and ‘Starship Troopers’.
Her expertise in the special effects and animation aspects of film landed her an executive position at DreamWorks. During her career, she also served as Director of Business and Legal for Interscope Communications.
Kuo Baxter was born and raised in Hawaii and received his postgraduate education at Wellesley College and New York University School of Law. After serving as a clerk for District Court Justices Malcolm Lucas and Edward Huff, she began her legal career in Los Angeles in 1984 as a corporate attorney for O’Melveny & Myers.
She is survived by her husband Tom Baxter. her son, Charlie; Her parents Frank and Dora Quo. her brother Doug. her stepsisters, Nancy Baxter, Ginny Tao Baxter and Anne Baxter Perrin; her stepbrothers, Charlie Baxter and Mark Perrin; her nieces Lauren Baxter and Amelia Perrin; her nephews Will Baxter and Colin Perrin;
