When voters go to the polls in the November 8 general election, the Working Families Party will put candidates to the ballot in the 23rd Senate districts of Bridgeport and Stratford.
Juliemar Ortiz announced Saturday that she has received notification from the Secretary of State that her campaign has collected enough signatures to participate in the vote.
Ortiz said he joined other petition candidates like New Movement Party’s Joe Gritz to help create a level playing field.
“Volunteers are knocking on our doors. We go to the community and collect these signatures because we deserve to put people-first candidates on the ballot,” said Ortiz. explained.
“Supported candidates will receive more pressure, obviously more funding and support, and petitioning candidates will put up more struggles. It helps you do that,” Grits said.
Ortiz added that she hopes to qualify for a Clean Elections Program grant to fund her campaign.
Herron Gaston is the Democratic nominee for the 23rd Senate seat.
Mike Garrett is a Republican.
