Rihanna returns to music activities and releases her first original song as a solo artist for the first time in six years.
Created for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, ‘Lift Me Up’ is a new song written by Thames, Ludwig Goransson, Rihanna and ‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler.
“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his film and song direction, I wanted to write something that would portray a warm hug from all the people I’ve lost in my life,” Thames said in a statement. It was such an inspiration to me and I am so honored to hear her deliver this song.”
Fans of the 34-year-old singer, who were eagerly awaiting her return to music, seemed to love the ballad’s hauntingly simple melody and powerful lyrics.
“These lyrics and vocals are so beautiful, Rihanna knows when and how to release the songs we need when we really need them,” one person commented on YouTube. “Thank you for being a constant source of love and an uplifting presence over the years, Rih!”
“The song is beautiful. Rihanna’s voice is beautiful and the lyrics are art, love and everything.”
“Lift Me Up” lyrics
lift me up
hold me down
keep me close
safe and sound
burning with hopeless dreams
hug me when i sleep
protect me in the warmth of your love
keep me safe when you leave
safe and sound
lift me up
hold me down
keep me close
safe and sound
drowning in the endless sea
take a moment and stay with me
protect me with the strength of your arms
keep me safe
safe and sound
lift me up
Embrace
keep me safe
safe and sound
burning with hopeless dreams
hug me when i sleep
keep me safe
we need light, we need love
(Lift me up) Lift me up in your arms
(Hold me) I need love I need love I need love
(Keep me close) Hold me tight
(Safe and secure) Hold me, hold me, hold me
(Lift it up) Hug me, hug me, hug me
(hug me) hug me hug me
(Keep me safe) we need light, we need love
