The new Star Wars TV series Andor promises to take a look at the everyday lives of those who ultimately become heroes in ongoing battles in a galaxy far, far away.
Andor, which debuts Wednesday on the Disney+ streaming service, is a prequel to the hit 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The main character is the famous Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna.
“It takes action and adventure, it’s like the broader sci-fi you’d expect from Star Wars, but at the same time, we allow ourselves to be different,” Luna told Reuters.
The 12-episode series aims to answer the question, “What was life like for people willing to sacrifice everything for a cause?” I don’t think we’ve seen it,” Luna said.
“I don’t think we lived the most intimate lives of those who had to live under imperial rule. What were those dark ages? As for everyday life, now , and we’re trying to make it happen,” he added.
Andor is set five years before the events of Rogue One, with Luna’s character sacrificing herself for the greater good. Disney has already ordered a second season leading up to the beginning of the film.
Rogue One and Andor writer Tony Gilroy said:
“Real feelings, real stakes, real threats, real fear, real betrayal, real love, real despair, real family, real domestic drama, real adventure,” he said.
