Many people use the browsers that come with computers because they are convenient. For Safari this is a good thing. Apple’s browsers block cross-site tracking, so you can enjoy your favorite sites without worrying about being followed. But there is another tool that enhances your privacy.
You can also open pages in private browsing mode. In other words, no search history is saved. Here’s how to do it on Apple devices.
What is private browsing mode?
Private browsing mode clears your search history, websites you visit, cookies, and form data (such as autofill suggestions). If someone sits at the same computer after you, he or she cannot see your activity.
This is great at the local level. However, it does not hide your activity from the websites you visit. You may continue to be tracked and your data may continue to be shared with third parties.
It’s called Incognito mode in Chrome and InPrivate in Microsoft Edge. Both Apple and Firefox call this Private Browsing.
