Some Bollywood celebrities these days ¥$100 million for one movie. This includes fees, distributions and other rights. No star has confirmed or denied these figures, but multiple reports suggest that the star charges a very high fee, which accounts for a large portion of the film’s budget.
Commenting on this trend, Subhash Ghai told Bollywood Hungama: ¥One hundred million. But as a director, I have to get ¥12.5 billion at that time. After all, I made a movie. I hope they get 100 and I get 125. ¥200 million. The division of labor by producers is solely that of production managers. Saara toh tu le gaya (You took all the money)”
The veteran director added that the bulk of the budget ends up with the star’s high fees, making it difficult for producers to make the film. Ab image main campaign noun? (You (stars) took 80-90% of the money. How do you make a movie?) Save ¥5-1 billion rupees and manage to survive. This is the state in which producers make movies today. What should I do? The producer is the boss of the movie, but you reduced him to production his manager. He’s working on his 20%, and by getting the 80%, he’s taken all the creative decisions in his own hands. ”
Subhash Ghai has not made a film since 2016. Also in 2018, he was involved in a MeToo controversy in which he accused a woman of drugging and assaulting him. He later received a clean chit from Mumbai police for the incident.
